Celtic Head of Recruitment Lee Congerton has left the Hoops to join Leicester City in the Premier League – the Glasgow club have confirmed.

Lee Congerton joined Celtic in March of 2017 as their head of recruitment but now he has decided to move out of Celtic Park in order to join his former boss.

In a statement issued this morning, Celtic said(as reported): “Celtic Football Club announced today that Lee Congerton is resigning from his post as the club’s Head of Recruitment to take up new opportunities.

“Everyone at Celtic would like to thank Lee, who joined the club in March 2017, for his contribution to the club and we wish him the very best for the future.

“The existing staff within Celtic’s scouting and recruitment department will continue to work closely with club management on the identification of players who can benefit the club.

“The club has already commenced the process to appoint a new Head of Recruitment, something which will be completed as soon as possible.”

Lee Congerton has previously worked with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea when he joined the Blues back in 2005.

Initially, he was the youth team coach at the club but then went on to become the chief scout at Stamford Bridge alongside Brendan Rodgers who was the reserve-team coach.

With Brendan Rodgers, Congerton had the job of nurturing young talent at Chelsea which included the likes of Ryan Bertrand, Daniel Sturridge and Scott Sinclair.

And now after two years with Celtic Lee Congerton will play the exact same role at Leicester City under Brendan Rodgers.

The Foxes released a statement stating:

“The vastly-experienced 45-year-old joins the Foxes following a highly-successful two-year spell with Scottish champions Celtic, where he worked alongside current Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers.

“Congerton’s impressive background has seen him fulfil key roles for Hamburg, Sunderland and Chelsea – during which time he was credited with identification of a host of exciting talent.”
