Liverpool had a Man United like problem during their loss to PSG in the UCL: What was it?

Man United have become famous during the current season for their failures to get goals during games.

Even on Tuesday, the Red Devils had to rely on a single Marouane Fellaini goal in injury time in order to secure qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

But then, many argue that this is how you expect Jose Mourinho’s teams to perform.

That though, cannot be said about Jurgen Klopp and his tactics.

The Liverpool manager is famous for his attacking brand of football, first at Borussia Dortmund and now with Liverpool.

But during the PSG vs Liverpool, all the Reds did was move the ball around vigorously in and around midfield without hurting PSG’s defence.

Much like Man United, Liverpool too failed to register shots on goal and apart from that one penalty, Gigi Buffon was mere spectator during the game.

The only major threat in the attacking front from Liverpool came from Sadio Mane while the duo of Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino, as usual, went missing in the high profile game.

And Graeme Souness has pointed out this very flaw, claiming that such an inability could be a big problem for Liverpool during the course of the season.

“It is a worry,” Souness said on Virgin Media Sport.

“You play 90 minutes with all that firepower on the pitch and they manage one shot on target.

“You’d think that would be nigh on impossible for the players Liverpool have got. But they achieved it tonight.

“Five shots on target in three away games.

“You don’t win European Cups unless you’re scoring goals!

“And if you make a mistake you’ll be punished at the highest level.”

But as we said earlier, Jose Mourinho thrives on small margin results and with that Fellaini goal, Man United have qualified into the knockout stages and their final group game will now determine the position on which they will finish on the table.

Liverpool, on the other hand, will now take on Napoli in the final group game and Jurgen Klopp’s men need to win that game with atleast a margin of goals.
