Liverpool defender Joel Matip picked up a knee injury back in October during a 1-1 draw vs Manchester United and he’s been on the sidelines ever since.

Joel Matip was not given much chance at success by the pundits before the start of the 2019-20 season but the centre-back defied all odds and managed to form a superb partnership with Van Dijk and at one point the pair looked almost invincible.

But ever since the defender’s been sidelined, Liverpool have looked shaky at the back and have also conceded unnecessary goals in almost all of their games.

So far, Joel Matip has missed a fair amount of games and now Jurgen Klopp has revealed that the centre-back will be out of action for a bit longer.

The manager said before the Merseyside Derby: “Joel needs a bit more time.

“It’s healing but it’s not exactly how we wished for.

“It needs a bit more time, so that will take a while.

“The rest are fit. The long-term injuries not in, but all the others are fit and available.”

Right now, its Dejan Lovren who is partnering Van Dijk in defence but the former has not had the same amount of impact as Matip did during the start of the season.

Joe Gomez has also started in central defence for the Reds but we believe until Joel Matip returns back to action, it will be Lovren who will pair up with Van Dijk for the important games for Liverpool.
