Dejan Lovren picked up a hamstring injury during Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Wolves in the FA Cup and now Jurgen Klopp is in deep trouble.
Not only have the Reds been knocked out from the FA Cup, but they will now go into their next Premier League game with only one fit central defender.
Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are already out injured and now with Dejan Lovren also picking up an injury means Virgil Van Dijk will have an unfamiliar partner alongside him when Liverpool take on Brighton.
In such a scenario, multiple reports are claiming that Liverpool will head out into the market and buy a new central defender to solve this crisis.
And now Jurgen Klopp has finally opened up about diving into the market in order to make a panic buy.
“The only country that asks a question like this is England. Everything is sorted with buying players,” he said(as reported by the Liverpool Echo).
“We have four centre-halves. Three, maybe, two-and-a-half are injured so we’ll have to try and come through in the moment.
“We need them back but you cannot buy a fifth centre-half and say ‘so you play two weeks and after that, the others come in’”.
The manager has also confirmed that Joel Matip and Joe Gomez are both nearing full fitness and the duo could be available for selection towards the end of this month.
“[Joe is] getting better, it’s getting better, but he is not yet involved,” the German told reporters.
“Joel is maybe a bit closer, I’m not sure, but hopefully he moves completely normal. We have to see how the bone healing is, that’s always how it is when something [has] broke, but from his movements, it looks nearly normal.
“But there are still a few days to go until we can have them in team training, until [Joel] is ready for contact, which for a centre-half is pretty important. Until then we will make all the fitness work.
Liverpool will take on Brighton at the Falmer Stadium this weekend and right now it looks like Virgil Van Dijk will be partnered by Fabinho in central defence.
