Liverpool will take their first shot at a major silverware this weekend when they head to Wembley to face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final and despite Chelsea’s recent good run of form, the Anfield outfit will be hoping to see this one out rather easily.
Liverpool have been in peak form this season, scoring 100 goals and losing four matches so far but Sunday’s final will be a bit tricky because Klopp has a lot of injuries to deal with.
As far as recent form is concerned, Liverpool haven’t lost to Chelsea in their previous five outings and the last time the London side came out on top was in March of 2021.
Liverpool haven’t kept a clean sheet in 7 matches but going forward, they are one of the best in Europe right now. They have netted 63 goals in 26 Premier League games this campaign which is the best in the land.
Liverpool’s team news and injuries:
The injury list does not look great at all because Jurgen Klopp will be without close to a dozen first-team players on Sunday.
Joel Matip, Thiago, Trent, Alisson, Curtis Jones, Bajcetic and Diogo Jota are going to miss the trip to Wembley while a few others remain in major doubt.
21-year-old Jarell Quansah played alongside Van Dijk in midweek which allowed Klopp to rest Konate but the Frenchman is coming back into the starting XI on Sunday.
Conor Bradley has done remarkably well at right-back and the Liverpool manager has no other option but to keep relying on him. Andy Robertson was rested in midweek so he will come into the side.
Szoboszlai is still some time away from reaching full fitness which means Endo, Mac Allister and Gravenberch will be the midfield trio.
Mo Salah and Darwin Nunez both missed the victory over Luton after the pair picked up knocks during the Brentford game but they should be fit to take on Chelsea at the weekend.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Klopp said: “Darwin felt that in that game and there was nothing around. We go day by day. It is day by day as well with Mo. It’s a similar area (hamstring) where he feels [fatigue] a little bit. We have to see how it develops. It’s nothing crazy, but we have to see.”
Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott got a chance to start in midweek but with Salah and Nunez set to return these two will move back to the bench.
Liverpool predicted line up vs Chelsea:
Predicted Starting XI(4-3-3): Kelleher; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Endo, Gravenberch; Mo Salah, Nunez, Luiz Diaz.
