Liverpool had spent heavily on player transfer during 2018 first bring in Virgil Van Dijk and then Alisson Becker.
At first, there were lots of criticisms when the transfers were announced but both of these players have turned out to be key players in the first XI.
Alisson has solved the goalkeeping problem for the Reds – a thing that caused them much trouble last season and Van Dijk has been the marshal in defence.
At the start of the season everything looked sorted for Liverpool and after the first few months, a lot of people were optimistic that the Reds will be able to pick the Premier League title this time around.
Sadly though, the second half of the season have opened up a lot of cracks in the Liverpool squad and the team are no longer looking invisible.
And according to Paul Joyce of the Times, Liverpool will most certainly dive back into the transfer market during the summer.
Here’s why:
Paul Joyce wrote for the Times: “The plan for Liverpool is not to repeat the heavy spending of previous summer transfer windows but it will be interesting to see whether that view bends.”
“Virgil van Dijk needs a reliable player alongside him in central defence.”
On one hand, Virgil Van Dijk is a world-class defender but the likes of Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren just do not have that kind of reputation.
Joe Gomez did prove to be the ideal partner for the Dutch international but since he has gotten injured, Liverpool have been leaking goals in almost every game.
Jurgen Klopp surely needs to bring in an ideal partner for Van Dijk during the summer and some rumours have it that the manager might also look for a new midfielder since both Naby Keita and Fabinho have failed miserably this season.
