Liverpool beat Man City 3-1 in the Premier League on Sunday meaning they have opened up an eight-point head at the top of the table.

Last season, the Reds came agonisingly close to winning their maiden Premier League title but in the end, Man City held their nerves to pick up the trophy and apart from the Citizens, Man United were more relieved with the fact that Liverpool did not get their hands on the trophy.

This season though, Jurgen Klopp men have started the games with even more determination and as of now, they have managed to drop just two points in the league.

And according to Man United legend Gary Neville, Liverpool will be able to hold onto their lead and pick up the Premier League title this season.

“You’ve got to be some team to win the Champions League, to get to back-to-back Champions League finals, to chase Manchester City right to the end of last season,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“Liverpool are playing Premier League title-winning football and have been for the last 18 months. Yes, they could blow this lead, yes City could come back, yes there could be a shock from Chelsea or Leicester, but it’s becoming more unlikely.

“The biggest risk to Liverpool is getting caught up in the Champions League or caught up in injuries to the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk.

“They would have a big problem were they to lose two of those players for a couple of months, just like it has been for City losing Aymeric Laporte.

“But all things point towards Liverpool being big, big favourites for the Premier League title. It’s not because they are nine points clear of City, it’s the steps they have been taking in the seasons before to move closer and closer.

“Eventually, they will get there and, at this moment at time, they are going to take some real stopping.”

This season the only club which have managed to pick up points against Liverpool have been Manchester United but that will mean nothing for the Old Trafford outfit if their biggest rivals manage to get their hands on the title by the end of the season.

While Man City will surely be disappointed if they fail to defend their title but the fans will surely be heartbroken especially since their team have fought for close to three decades in trying to stop Liverpool from getting their hands on the Premier League trophy.
