Chelsea seem to be interested in signing 23-year-old centre-forward Luca Waldschmidt from SC Freiburg this summer – as per The Sun.

The Siegen-born lad joined his current side from Hamburger SV in 2018 and this season he has managed to score five goals in just 15 Bundesliga games.

Apart from his good show in the top division, the player had also been wonderful for the German U21 side and this is one of the main reasons why Frank Lampard is so keen to sign him at the end of this season.

The report claims: “FRANK LAMPARD is ready to make a shock move for German hitman Luca Waldschmidt.

“Chelsea think Waldschmidt can improve and that he will develop when he learns to use his physique.

“Waldschmidt, 23, has won two senior caps following his sensational performance in last year’s European Under-21 Championship in Italy, where he banged in seven goals in four games.

“The locals were so impressed with the starlet they named him ‘Il Bomber’ in a nod to West Germany’s legend Gerd Muller, who was known as ‘Der Bomber’.”

Luca Waldschmidt to Chelsea: Bad news for Tammy?

Chelsea are expected to open talks with Luca Waldschmidt in the coming few weeks and if Lampard can get this deal through it will be a big relief for him since the club’s expected to lose both Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi in the summer.

But if Luca Waldschmidt does move to Chelsea it could be bad news for Tammy Abraham since the German has the potential to be the first-choice striker at Stamford Bridge next season.

Tammy Abraham started the 2019-20 season in fine form but over the past couple of months, the goals have dried down for him.

This season he has managed to net 13 goals in 25 games for the Blues which is a very impressive record but off late he has struggled with a series of injuries and this is starting to be a bit of a concern for the London outfit.

Luca Waldschmidt has been tipped to succeed at the top level by many pundits and at just £20million the Freiburg forward might be the perfect striker to have on the bench next season.

Lampard looks pretty serious about signing the 23-year-old but it still remains to be seen if the German international is keen enough to move to the Premier League or stay in the Bundesliga for a couple of more years.
