Arsenal take on West Ham United in the Premier League this weekend and Lucas Torreira has been ruled out of the match – the club have confirmed.

Lucas Torriera picked up an ankle injury during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Portsmouth in the FA Cup and the midfielder had to be taken off the pitch in 16th minute itself to be replaced by Dani Ceballos.

The player was seen leaving the stadium in a protective boot which immediately suggested that the injury sustained could be serious but Lucas Torreira did play down fears claiming that he was fine.

‘I wanted to tap it and grabbed my ankle on the outside,’ Torreira told ESPN(via Metro).

‘It twisted me, but I can move it. I’m fine’.

Now though, the club have confirmed that Lucas Torreira has sustained a fracture on his right ankle meaning he is ruled out of the Arsenal vs West Ham United clash.

The injury update as the club stated: “Right ankle. Sustained fracture to right ankle during Portsmouth (a) on Monday. Awaiting further specialist reviews which will determine recovery plan.”

Impact of the injury to Lucas Torreira:

The injury to Lucas Torreira will surely be a big setback to the player since he’s been trying to win the trust of his new manager over the past couple of months.

But as far as Mikel Arteta is concerned, he will not be too concerned since he does have apt backups in the form Matteo Guendouzi and Dani Ceballos.

During the past couple of games, the manager has been deployed the pairing of Granit Xhaka and Ceballos in central midfield and against West Ham United too, this same pairing should take the field meaning the absence of Lucas Torreira will hopefully not be felt.
