Real Madrid have withdrawn their interest in Kylian Mbappe which means Liverpool are now the favourites to sign the World Cup winner.
Mbappe has been on Madrid’s radar for a couple of seasons but Florentino Perez is reportedly no longer interested in the 24-year-old. His age and his high salary demands are some of the main reasons why the Los Blancos are focusing on their other targets.
Kylian Mbappe wants to leave PSG at the end of this season and now Liverpool have the opportunity to sign him in the summer. However, if they wish to bring the French international on board, they will have to shell out an incredible amount.
As per reports, the Premier League side will have to pay £87 million as a signing winning and then they will have to pay a post-tax salary of £30.5 million per year.
Real Madrid has Vinicius Jr who plays on the left wing so if they sign Kylian Mbappe then it is going to hamper Vini’s growth. However, Liverpool do not have any such problem because Klopp can easily push his current crop of left-wingers down the pecking order to accommodate Mbappe.
Liverpool have players like Luis Diaz, Gakpo and Diogo Jota who play out on the left-hand side but without a doubt, Kylian Mbappe is going to be a major upgrade.
Paying around £117 million just to bring in the Frenchman is a huge ask but Liverpool could lose Mo Salah to the Saudi League and if that happens then the Anfield outfit will be able to bring in a healthy amount of transfer fee.
Liverpool won’t mind paying the £87 million for a player of Mbappe’s calibre but it’s the £30 million salary that is something that won’t be affordable for the Merseyside club. Also, if Salah is leaving then they will have to spend a significant amount to bring in an apt replacement for the Egyptian international.
The Anfield outfit would love to sign the 24-year-old now that Real Madrid have backed off but we don’t think the finances are going to work out for the Reds’ owners.
