Manchester City salvage a draw at the Riverside Stadium

Manchester City missed a golden chance to go above Liverpool in the league table after they drew their match against Middlesbrough. Pep Guardiola win not be very happy after his side drew with a team which is fighting a tough relegation battle.

Manchester City came into the Riverside Stadium at the back of some good news. Their Manchester rivals had just drawn their match and it was a golden opportunity to leave them behind. But then, the Premier League has a twist in store at every turn.

City went behind in the 38th minute of the match. And it was former City striker Negredo who scored the goal for Brough. But it was their current striker Sergio Aguero who leveled things up for City. In the 69th minute, he converted from the penalty spot to make it 1-1. City had won the penalty after Leroy Sane was fouled in the box by Brough’s Marten de Roon.

Just as Pep Guardiola’s men were gearing up to throw the kitchen sink at Brough, they were struck with yet another blow. This time Calum Chambers pounced on a loose ball and but it into the back of the net to make it 2-1 for Middlesbrough.

It looked as if Brough might be able to hold on to register a famous win at home. But their joy was short-lived as Manchester City’s Brazilian wonder kid came to their rescue. Jesus scored a header 5 minutes before full time to give City an all important point.

Pep Guardiola will definitely rue this missed opportunity to go above Liverpool. City are currently in the fourth position tied at 66 points with Liverpool who are third on the table. Guardiola has another cause of concern after Aguero was seen holding his groin area towards the end of the match. The City manager though has said that the nature of the injury can only be stated after a full assessment.

Manchester City take on Crystal Palace at home in their next match. And Guardiola will be hoping that there are no more fumbles before the end of the season.
