Chelsea have been slapped with a transfer ban for signing underaged players and it looks like Manchester City could also be heading in the same direction.
The Blues have been frozen out of the transfer market for two windows for 29 breaches of article 19 of Fifa’s regulations on the transfer and status of players.
And reports suggest that FIFA are also investigating Man City for breaking rules related to the protection of youth players and third-party ownership.
The FA and the Premier League are already investigating Man City for allegations regarding the financial fair play rules and if they are found guilty then the Manchester-based club could be banned from playing in the Champions League too.
According to The Sun(as reported by the Independent), ‘Fifa believes City have crossed the line, though, in regards to their relationship with FC Nordsjaelland and the Right To Dream football academy in Ghana that is also owned by the Danish side’s president Tom Vernon.
‘Last year, two players from the academy, Sierra Leone’s George Davies and Ghanaian Dominic Oduro, told Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten that they signed for City and played in youth matches before they turned 18.
‘Both have since left City – Davies now plays in Latvia and Oduro in the United States – but Fifa has been investigating their time with the English club.’
If Manchester City are banned then surely it not only be a huge blow for the reigning Premier League champions but it will also be a setback for the Premier League.
Even though Chelsea have appealed against their ban but rumours have it that nothing fruitful will come out of it. And now if Man City are also hit by the same ban then the image of English football will most certainly take a hit.
Spanish clubs like Athletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid have all been punished for signing underaged players so it is pretty clear that FIFA take such breaches very seriously.
And with rumours of Pep Guardiola looking to join Juventus, if Man City are actually punished then will the Spaniard stay back and help the club?
