Man United’s injury list keeps on growing

0

A few days ago Man United manager Jose Mourinho joking said that he was spending time in the gym so that he could play in the first eleven. He was obviously referring to the long injury list that United currently have. But it looks as if his concerns are just growing stronger.

Luke Shaw is injured again:

Man United not only lost two points at home again this weekend but they also lost two players during the game. And both of them defenders. First, it was Luke Shaw who came off with what looked like a serious injury. And as per the current updates coming out of Carrington, Shaw might miss the rest of the season due to the injury.

This could very well be a huge blow for Shaw, who has been fighting to keep his place at  Man United. He has been publicly criticized by Mourinho in the past on quite a few occasions. And just when he was getting a few starts, another injury has halted his progress. If the injury is of any serious nature then it could mean that Shaw’s United career might well and truly be over.

Bailly is on the treatment table:

Eric Bailly was another player who headed straight to the treatment table from the pitch. The Ivorian has been one of the more consistent players in United’s squad this season. And his loss means that United’s defensive rock has been chiseled down to mere pebbles. Bailly reportedly has suffered a twisted ankle. Luckily his injury is not as serious as Shaw’s. But he will not be available for the Europa League clash against Celta Vigo.

United are also missing Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo due to injuries. And they will travel to Spain this Thursday with only one centre back(Daily Blind). Mourinho will look to Carrick possibly to fill up the other centre-back role. Carrick is no stranger to the position as he has filled that spot in the past.

Mourinho though will have a bit of respite in the midfield as some of his first team players will become available. Fellaini will be available for Europe. And both Pogba and Mata will return from their respective injuries.

Mourinho to play Under-23 squad:

But more importantly, it is the defense that is the true cause of concern for the Man United manager. Such are the defensive woes that Mourinho has hinted that he might even play the United 23 squad in their Premier League match against Crystal Palace on the final day of the season. While most people think that this is a sarcastic remark, but looking back at Mourinho’s past no one can safely bet against that.
