Man United picked up a rather easy 3-0 win over Watford in the Premier League on Sunday as Martial, Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes got their names on the scoresheet.
During the first half, the Hornets seemed to match Man United toe-to-toe and it seemed like they could take something out of this game. But just before the half-time whistle Bruno Fernandes converted from the penalty spot and from then onwards, Man United were on the driver’s seat.
And speaking after the match, the Man United manager had positive things to say about each one of his forwards.
Taking about Anthony Martial, the manager said: “He’s so skilful, is Anthony. I thought he’d ran offside, but the timing from Bruno’s pass was perfect and the skill there is just incredible. He does that in training, so you’re not that surprised.
“I’m delighted with the week Anthony has had. He has his critics – I’m probably the biggest. He scored a great header against Chelsea, did everything to score against Brugge and today was more classic Anthony. But I want more from him.”
The Norwegian was also in full praise of his young striker Greenwood who scored yet another goal for Man United, this time with a beautiful left-footed curler.
The boss said: “He’s a young kid learning his trade. He is learning to play against men, but he’s always been a goalscorer and he’ll never lose that because that is in the moment and the most difficult thing in football. But he’s got it. You just know when he’s got chances, he’s going to create half a yard to get a finish and he’s going to hit the target and I’m very pleased with his performance.”
And finally, he also admitted that the break has really helped Daniel James get back his form as the Welsh winger looked on song against the Hornets.
”He’s had a couple of games where he’s not played. He’s had a break now and we want him on the touchline; taking people on, running in behind, mixing up his football and today was Dan, more or less, at his best.“ the manager added.
But while all his forward did put in a fine shift but the Man United boss was not shy to applaud the brilliance of Bruno Fernandes who was the chief orchestrator of the match, scoring one and assisting one.
Speaking about Bruno Fernandes, the manager said: “He’s a footballer. He loves playing football, he wants the ball, he’s got the personality and character to demand it all the time, wanting to take the penalty. He takes it the way he does it to show he is a Man United character – not just a very, very good footballer.”
The arrival of Bruno Fernandes has certainly added a new dynamic to the Man United side and maybe he is the final piece of the jigsaw that Solskjaer needs to sort out his side and turn them into a more cohesive unit.
