Celtic FC had tried to sign midfielder Josh McGinn last summer but eventually, it was Aston Villa who got their hands on the 24-year-old.

Josh McGinn had been playing for Hibernian since 2015 and last summer he was expected to join the Bhoys in a big-money move.

But ultimately, it was Steve Bruce who convinced the 24-year-old to join Aston Villa and he went on to play a key role in the team’s return back to the Premier League.

Even Chelsea legend John Terry has gone on to praise the midfielder saying: “What a player he is. He is a great lad. He gets that backside into people and rolls people!

“He is an absolute pleasure to work with. To work with him on a daily basis is great.

“He is an absolute gentleman, a real talent and I think he is going to take the Premier League by storm this year because people aren’t going to know what to expect.

“He is a real top talent, a great lad who is keen to get better and improve himself.”

And now it is being reported that Manchester United have shown an interest in Josh McGinn and are trying to sign him this summer.

While the Premier League outfit have also been linked with other players like Bruno Fernandes and Sean Longstaff but now it looks like Sir Alex Ferguson himself has asked his former club to sign the Villa lad.

The Sun are reporting that the former Man United boss has urged the club to try and sign Josh McGinn as the 24-year-old can prove to be a big asset in the future.

The report claims: “MANCHESTER UNITED legend Sir Alex Ferguson wants his old club to sign Aston Villa’s Scottish terrier John McGinn.

Fergie still has a say at Old Trafford and is lobbying hard for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to land the fiery midfielder, 24.

“Veteran Fergie, 77, is close friends with McGinn’s grandad Jack.

“And the former Old Trafford manager is pushing for United to pick McGinn for the midfield, where they lack his kind of energy and goal threat.”
