Man United vs Sevilla UEFA Europa League
Europa League

Man United will be taking on Sevilla in the quarter-finals of the Europa League, the first leg will be played at Old Trafford this week.

The Premier League side are without a doubt the favourites to progress to the next round but Manchester United have very sour memories in respect of facing the Spanish side.

Man United haven’t been able to beat Sevilla in their previous three meetings with the La Liga side winning two out of the three. However, under Erik ten Hag, United are a totally transformed side so they will go into this tie as the odds-out favourite.

United’s Premier League title challenge is over but they can still end the season with three major trophies. They have already bagged the Carabao Cup and after beating Barcelona, Manchester United have a very realistic chance of winning the Europa League as well.

Sevilla go into this game in not-so-great form as they have won just two out of their previous five matches whereas Manchester United have lost just one. A stumble is still very much possible but because the first leg will be played at Old Trafford, the Red Devils should see this one through.

Manchester United’s team news and injuries:

Ten Hag received a massive boost as Christian Eriksen returned to the side after an injury lay-off. He got some minutes under his belt during the weekend and now he will be in line to start on Thursday night.

Casemiro’s also going to come into the starting line up and this midfield pairing could prove to be the point of difference for Man United.

Malacia will play at left-back because Luke Shaw is ruled out due to a muscle injury. Wan-Bissaka had another solid game at right-back and we think the manager is going to keep him in the starting line up against Sevilla as well.

Shaw’s injury won’t be a big concern for the Man United boss because Malacia is an apt replacement but ETH will be under immense pressure due to Rashford’s injury.

Marcus Rashford picked up a groin issue during the Everton game and as per The Sun, the forward could be sidelined for several weeks. Obviously, these are preliminary rumours and he could be fine in a week as well but there’s no way he will feature against Sevilla.

Rashford has been the top goal-scorer for Man United this season so his absence will be a massive blow for the English side. Now that Rashford is out, Weghorst and Anthony Martial as the two centre-forward options for Ten Hag but it remains to be seen who gets the nod for the 1st leg.

Jadon Sancho will get to play on the right wing while Antony occupies the left-hand side so the striker’s role is a position that is up for grabs. Weghorst has been the go-to man in the previous few months but now that Martial is back, Ten Hag will have to think this one through.
