Man United have appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their new caretaker manager until the end of the season.

While Solskjaer will try and end the season on a positive note, Ed Woodward will have to work behind the scenes to bring in a long-term replacement for Jose Mourinho.

And with the transfer window just around the corner, many publications were already reporting on the players that Solskjaer wanted to sign at Man United next month.

But now according to the Mirror, the caretaker manager will not be able to bring in any permanent signings during the January transfer window.

As per the report, Ole will only be allowed to make loan signings until the end of the season.

This is because the United management feel that Jose Mourinho did not utilize the full potential of the current players in the squad and hence it would be meaningless to bring in more expensive signings next month.

Players like Alexis Sanchez, Fred and Pogba have not gotten regular football this season and the board believes Solskjaer can use these players and try out to bring the best in them.

Another big reason why Man United are not allowing their caretaker boss to spend money in the winter transfer window is because they want to save that cash for the new boss who would be coming in at the end of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino is currently the frontrunner to become the new manager for Manchester United and the Argentinian would be needing money when and if he takes charge at Old Trafford.

So all those Man United fans who were hoping to see a couple of new players next month.

Hard luck.
