West Ham United have been promising much success under Manuel Pellegrini but each year there form slumps at a pivotal point during the campaign.

Right now they are 16th on the league table having lost four out of their past five matches and next up they take on Tottenham Hotspur at the London Stadium.

Obviously there’s very little chance that the Hammers can do any serious damage to Spurs but things are a bit different this season as the Lilywhites too are suffering from a loss of form.

The Pochettino led side are winless in their last five league matches – suffering three draws and two losses in the process meaning Manuel Pellegrini has an outside chance of beating his South American counterpart during the weekend.

And according to talkSPORT’s Jason Cundy, West Ham United will become a much better side if Manuel Pellegrini can just make a few tweaks to his formation.

“You have to say (Pellegrini has to take responsibility) now,” Cundy said on talkSPORT.

“I look at their team and you think ‘That’s a decent team they’ve got’, certainly going forward, they’ve got creativity. They’re not getting the best out of Haller. I don’t know why they don’t play a 433 with what they’ve got in their squad.

“So you’ve got the two wide men, Anderson one side, Yarmolenko the other. You’ve got Haller down the middle, you’ve got Rice as a pivot as the holding midfielder and there should be enough around him to have two midfielders that can get up and down and support.

“I don’t understand why they don’t do that, they play a sort of 4411 formation. You wonder whether now – and I’m not blaming Noble – but you wonder whether now there needs to be someone with a bit more dynamism in the middle of the park.

“The shape of the team I don’t quite fully understand. They’ve got two good fullbacks that can get up and down as well. Personally I think his days are numbered.

“I said at the time (he was appointed) I didn’t see Pellegrini as being the manager to move West Ham forward. It was a lazy appointment. I don’t think he could believe his luck that a Premier League club, and a big Premier League club like West Ham, were prepared to give him another opportunity.

“Now it’s starting to fall apart at the seams, well where do they go from here West Ham? Well the squad and the team are better than where they are right now. This is a team that should be looking around those European places.

“But the manager is the one, change him and I think you get a different result from West Ham.”

Update:

The reports might have gotten things all wrong as manager Mauricio Pochettino has been sacked by Tottenham Hotspur with immediate effect.
