Liverpool were reportedly offered Real Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente during this summer transfer window but Klopp did not want him.

Marcos Llorente has come up through the ranks at Real Madrid but the 24-year-old is yet to get a regular starting spot in the first XI.

Last season, he made only 7 La Liga appearances as he played back-up for Casemiro and with the way that the Bernabeu outfit are spanning their wings in the transfer market this summer, Marcos Llorente was likely not to play any part next campaign either.

This is why Zidane thought best to offload him and he will be joining local rivals Atletico Madrid pretty soon.

Marcos Llorente still has two years left on his current deal and the Los Blancos have managed to bring in around €30 million from his sale – which is undoubtedly a great deal given that the midfielder has played so little football last season.

But now, the player’s uncle has revealed that before joining Atletico, he was offered to the likes of Liverpool but Jurgen Klopp was not interested in signing him.

“I contacted various clubs to tell them what had happened, about the conversation between Zidane and Marcos,” said Julio Llorente(as reported).

“One of those who were around was Liverpool, but the position of Marcos was covered and he wasn’t a priority.

“Atletico was perhaps the team which took the biggest steps and they convinced us. I think we made the right decision.”

We can understand why Klopp would not want to invest so heavily on Marcos Llorente since he already has players like Naby Keita and Fabinho who play in those same areas.

Right now, the Reds have an overload of midfielders so bringing in Marcos Llorente for such a substantial transfer fee makes absolutely no sense.

If this was a bargain buy then surely, Jurgen Klopp would have given a thought to it but spending around €30 million on a player who has just played 540 minutes in the league last season would be a foolish move.
