Here’s the only way ‘this’ defender will arrive at Ibrox during the summer transfer window

Rangers FC have been linked with a move for Martin Skrtel who is currently a free agent – as per reports.

Martin Skrtel has played alongside Gerrard for a number of years at Liverpool but in 2016 he moved to Fenerbahce from the Anfield outfit for a fee of 6 million euros.

At the Turkish club, he signed a three-year deal which came to an end last month which means Martin Skrtel is currently a free agent and Rangers want to bring him on board.

The 34-year-old has been linked with the Gers for a couple of weeks now and recently the player has himself admitted that the Premiership outfit hold an interest in signing him for the 2019-20 season.

Speaking about his future, the central defender said: “There are offers, but I’m not in a hurry to choose my new team. I have some criteria and I have to be patient.

“My manager had talks with Başakşehir, Fenerbahçe, Parma, Olympiakos and Glasgow Rangers. But I can’t say anything more for now.”

But while most fans are happy that Steven Gerrard is planning to bring in such an experienced defender but we do not feel that Martin Skrtel will arrive at Ibrox this summer.

And the biggest reason for that is his wages.

Last summer too Steven Gerrard tried to sign the centre-back but his wage demands proved to be a major stumbling block. And this time too the same problem seems to have crept up.

As per reports, Martin Skrtel is demanding around £50,000 a week in the form of wages to join Rangers and the Gers just cannot afford to pay such big amounts.

The 34-year-old was earning £60,000 per week at Fenerbahce and clearly, he does not want a reduction of salary at his new club.

But clearly, if he is interested in working under Steven Gerrard next season then Martin Skrtel will have to take a hefty pay-cut or else choose another club.
