Petr Cech

Petr Cech has been the number one for Arsenal ever since he joined the club from Chelsea a couple of seasons ago.

But this year with the signing of Bernd Leno, the veteran keeper has become more of a second string shot-stopper for the Gunners.

Petr Cech has made very limited appearances for Arsenal this season and most of them have come in cup competitions.

And for the past couple of months rumours had been ripe that the keeper would join a new club during the summer.

Petr Cech though had recently announced that he is going to retire from professional football at the end of this season which means Arsenal have to find a backup man to Bern Leno for the 2019-2020 season.

But it looks like the club have already ear-marked the man who is going to fill up Petr Cech’s boots at the club and it is none other than Emiliano Martinez.

Martinez came up through the ranks at Arsenal and ever since moving into the first team the keeper has headed out to various loan spells.

This month he has joined Reading on loan up until the end of the season but Martinez has claimed that Arsenal want his to replace Petr Cech next campaign.

“I have three years left on my contract at Arsenal,” he said.

“Now Cech is retiring I was told when I came to Reading that next year they want me to be the backup. But I’m not thinking about next season yet.

“I am not thinking about what may happen in the summer, we will look at it then. All I know is Reading is my team now.

“I want to play regular games and I want to help Reading.”
