Man United will look to cash in on Mason Greenwood in the summer and along with FC Barcelona, Juventus are also keen to land the forward.
Greenwood spent a long time out of action due to personal issues but he has returned to action this season, joining Getafe on a loan deal until the end of May.
The forward did not play even a single game during the 2022/23 season and taking that into account, Mason Greenwood has done a great job this campaign, scoring six and assisting five goals in 24 league appearances for Getafe. His performances have been fairly stable with an xG of 5.21 and an xA of 2.79.
The news in the Man United camp is that they wish to offload Greenwood during the summer window and the Red Devils want to bag around around €50 million for the 22-year-old.
Up until December of 2021, Mason Greenwood was valued at €50 million but his valuation has seen a major dip and right now, he is valued at only €15 million.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Barcelona are not interested in Greenwood and they are focusing on their other targets but other reports are suggesting that Barca want to sign him however, they cannot afford to meet Man United’s financial demands.
Writing in his column for CaughtOffside, Romano said: “Despite a meeting in recent days between Manchester United’s directors and Barcelona director Deco, we can say that Barcelona are not working on a deal to sign Mason Greenwood.
“There have been many rumours in Spain about that as Greenwood has been doing very well on loan at Getafe and I can confirm that Manchester United are ready to let Greenwood leave.”
Barcelona’s financial woes are an open secret and maybe that’s why they have backed off but if they are still interested in the forward the Blaugrana will have to battle Juventus. The Old Lady view him as a good enough target but even they will hesitate to pay €50 million for the 22-year-old.
Mason Greenwood’s contract with Manchester United expires in 2025 so they are not going to send him out on another loan deal. Either they will sell him in the summer or they will bring him back into the squad.
The first option looks much likelier at the moment but United will have to lower their demands so that Barca and Juventus hold serious transfer talks.
As far as Mason Greenwood is concerned, he is still open to returning to Man United but that seems a distant dream. And choosing between Barcelona and Juventus, we feel the 22-year-old will want to play at the Camp Nou.
