Arsenal hold a substantial interest in Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres but Premier League rivals Chelsea have sent scouts to watch him.

Viktor Gyokeres featured in Sweden’s defeat to Portugal this week and Chelsea had scouts in attendance for this match as the Blues continue their hunt for a new centre-forward. Sweden lost the game 2-5 but Gyokeres did put his name on the scoresheet.

The Sporting forward has been in red-hot form this season, scoring 22 and assisting 10 goals in just 24 league appearances and apart from Arsenal and Chelsea, several other big clubs are interested in signing him.

Viktor Gyokeres has a €100 million release clause in his current contract and this price tag will be very tempting for Chelsea. His contract with Sporting CP expires in 20298 so the club is in no hurry to offload him but a summer exit is very much a possibility.

Chelsea have been eyeing other strikers like Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen but both these players are going to cost around €110-130 million so at €100 million, Gyokeres could be a very sensible signing.

Chelsea are confident they will be able to avoid a FFP breach by selling a long list of players in the summer which means they will have the required money to spend on a valuable striker.

Arsenal, however, will be under lots of pressure because they have stopped chasing Ivan Toney while Osimhen is beyond their reach. In such a scenario, Viktor Gyokeres is Mikel Arteta’s top target but if Chelsea want to challenge for the 25-year-old then it’s going to be a very interesting battle.

Gyokeres is a top talent who deserves to play for a top European club and Arsenal were hoping to bring him on board without much struggle. The Gunners could sign any new players in January due to lack of funds and even in the summer, the club’s management plan to spend very wisely.

Tottenham and Milan have also been linked with the 25-year-old but Arsenal are above them any day. However, if Chelsea jump in with their massive budget then Edu and co. could lose out on Viktor Gyokeres.

The Blues still seem to be focused on Victor Osimhen who is sure to leave Napoli at the end of this season but Chelsea will probably avoid an FFP breach by small margins(if they can achieve that) so saving even €20-30 million will be a big thing for them in the summer.
