Manchester United badly want to sign Mason Mount and they are going to make one final try to sign the midfielder.
The Red Devils manager rates Mount very highly and he’s asked his management to bring him on board as early as possible. Mason Mount is not going to renew his contract with Chelsea plus he is also eager to work under Erik ten Hag so United are the clear favourites in this deal.
United’s initial bid of £40 million was promptly rejected by Chelsea because the Blues want £70 million for the midfielder however Manchester United are now preparing to make a £50 million offer for Mason Mount and as per reports, this is going to be their final offer.
Mason Mount is a product of the Chelsea academy and to date, he’s played close to 200 games for the London side. His current contract expires in 2024 and even though Chelsea want to hold onto him, the midfielder is not ready to commit his future to the club.
Should Man United spend £50 million on Mason Mount?
Mason Mount is naturally a No 10 and we can understand why Erik ten Hag wants him onboard. All the playmaking pressure is now on Bruno Fernandes which is why the Manchester United manager wants to add another similar type of player to his squad before the 23/24 seasons kicks off.
Another big advantage with Mount is that he is very versatile because he can play as a wide midfielder as well as a central midfielder. He’s obviously the most effective as the link but if needed he can adapt and adjust.
It makes no sense to even spend £50 million on a player who has only one year left on his contract but Mount is only 24 years old and in today’s market £50 million is a very practical transfer fee.
Chelsea are trying their best to get as much value as possible from this sale but they can’t negotiate too much because he will be a free agent next summer.
We think the Blues will have to accept a fee of around £50-55 million and because Mason Mount has already agreed on personal terms with Manchester United, the midfielder should be a Red Devil very soon.
