Rangers FC have signed four new players during the January transfer window but the club are expected to make a few more.

And one of them could be Matt Polster.

The right-back played for Chicago Fire in the MLS last season but his contract with the American club expired this month following which Gerrard had invited the player to attend Rangers’ training camp at Tenefire.

And now it seems that the player has impressed the coaching staff as the manager has confirmed that the club are close to signing Matt Polster.

“I’ve said before, Matt Polster’s very close. That’ll depend on a work permit situation,” Gerrard had said earlier this week.

But according to MLS expert Andrew Wiebe, Matt Polster could turn out to be a burden for the Gers.

Here’s why:

“He started in defensive midfield and then moved to right-back in 2017. He really thrived there”, explained the pundit(as reported).

“He picks up the ball in advanced positions, he’s really good at tucking inside, he’s good at combinations in the tight spaces because he’s got technical ability from central midfield days.”

“He’s quick, strong, but my question, as I’m sure is the same with Rangers, is the health,

“Because he had a knee injury and basically missed 2018.”

During the past two years, Matt Polster has picked up three knee injuries which have forced the player to miss a total of 44 games.

But his last injury was by the most serious.

Matt Polster injured his knee in March of 2018 and only made his return in October of that same year – missing as many as 36 games for the Chicago Fire.
