Thomas Tuchel is planning to get rid of Matthijs de Ligt next summer and Manchester United could try and bring him to Old Trafford.

De Ligt joined Bayern from Juventus in 2022 but Tuchel is said to be keen on bringing in a new defensive leader into his squad and as per rumours, the Bayern manager wants to sign Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo.

Real Madrid have been linked with the Dutch centre-back while in recent weeks, Arsenal have also shown an interest in signing him at the end of this season.

The Gunners have been mentioned several times as talks of a potential exit keep growing but if Matthijs de Ligt is up for sale then Manchester United will surely join this transfer race.

Erik ten Hag has been having constant defensive woes this season and there have been reports that the Man United manager is willing to part ways with Raphael Varane in the summer.

If the French defender is leaving then someone like Matthijs de Ligt can very easily be his long-term replacement, more so cause the Bayern defender is still only 24 years old.

Benfica’s Antonio Silva is the number one defensive target for United but if a player like De Ligt is available then the Red Devils won’t mind challenging Arsenal and Real Madrid.

Honestly speaking, if Madrid are serious about signing the ex-Ajax defender then it’s very hard to see him play for one of the Premier League teams but the Los Blancos are yet to make up their minds.

Matthijs de Ligt is currently valued at €65 million and his contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2027 so the Bavarians will try and make a massive profit from his sale. This means any club that wishes to sign him will have to pay a premium for the centre-back.

The 24-year-old can help solve a lot of problems for Manchester United but this season, he’s started only three league games for Bayern. Antonio Silva, on the other hand, is only 20 and he has a rating of 7.58 out of 10 in 14 league appearances for Benfica this campaign.

Silva will be as expensive as Matthijs de Ligt but if Erik ten Hag is still at the helm then United will likely go after the Benfica centre-back because the new owners are reportedly going to back the manager with the players he wants.
