Andre Arshavin believes it’s high time that Arsenal get rid of Mesut Ozil during the summer transfer window and use someone else in his position.
“As a player, of course, I respect him. Mesut is a world-class player,” Arshavin told 888 Sport, as quoted.
“But for me personally he slows down the game. I would prefer to use another player.
“Mikel, as we can see, is the opposite and plays him a lot. He has improved his game at Arsenal but still, in the future, I do not see him there.
“For me, Arsenal’s squad is not balanced. Offensively-wise they are very good and in attack, they play very pretty football. It’s good to watch. But defensively – even in my period – Arsenal is weak.
“Sometimes that is down to injuries and sometimes they don’t have enough experience but I don’t know why this doesn’t change.”
Is Mesut Ozil really useless for Arsenal?
Unai Emery was pretty clear that Mesut Ozil did not have any future at the club and the German looked all set to move out at the start of this year.
But before that could happen, Emery was himself shown the door and now Mikel Arteta seems to have full faith on Ozil and his abilities.
Under the new boss, Mesut Ozil has been playing regularly in his most favoured role but like Arshavin, we too feel that the playmaker’s tone is completely opposite to what Arteta wishes to do.
So our best guess is that the Arsenal boss is using Mesut Ozil only because he does not have a worthy replacement. And so if the manager can manage to sign a good enough playmaker during the summer then it will surely be an end to Ozil’s career at the Emirates.
So far the German has played in 18 Premier League games for the Gunners but has managed to provide only two assists which is something that you certainly do not want to see from your premier playmaker.
