With each passing week, Mesut Ozil’s time at Arsenal is coming to an end and the situation is not at all getting better.

Mesut Ozil has hardly featured under Unai Emery this season and this snub from the manager has been met with a mixed response.

So people claim, the manager is doing the right thing while others feel Mesut Ozil still has a lot to give for the first XI.

And while everyone has been trying to decrypt as to what actually went wrong for the German this season, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given a possible reason for Mesut Ozil’s slump in form.

“I feel that the length of the contract has nothing to do normally with the selection of the team. But sometimes there are special cases,” Wenger said.

“Most of the time now we think when we sign a player for five years we have a good player for five years.

“But that doesn’t necessarily mean that they practice, they play their best. Because they might be in their comfort zone.

“He has a contract but the problem is that if you want to buy a player like him you have to spend £100million.

“And to maintain the value of the player, beyond the Ozil case, it is more about the way football is structured.

“To buy players of top, top quality you need £100million. So the decision you have to make is whether you re-sign the player, who costs us nothing, or do we have the money to buy a new player?”

Mesut Ozil so far has played in just 18 games for Arsenal in all competitions and right now the Gunners are in the process of finding a buyer for the playmaker and as soon as they find one, Emery will sanction the sale.
