Mesut Ozil Arsenal team news

Mesut Ozil is expected to leave Arsenal during the summer transfer window but the treatment vested out to him this season has raised a lot of eyebrows.

Mesut Ozil has hardly featured under Unai Emery this campaign and it looks like the manager has found a way to name his first XI without the German playmaker.

While Emery has always maintained that Mesut Ozil is still an integral part of the squad but it is for everyone to see that the relationship between the pair has broken down.

And according to Danny Murphy, the player’s current situation at Arsenal is very similar to that of Paul Pogba’s at Man United during the first half of the season.

“I think we are seeing the end of the road for Mesut Ozil at Arsenal,” former Liverpool midfielder Murphy told Sportingbet.

“He simply doesn’t fit into how Emery wants Arsenal to play and he clearly doesn’t trust him on the pitch.

“It’s a strange one because I personally think Ozil should be a guaranteed starter for Arsenal because he is so creative on the ball. I think the likes of Aubameyang and Lacazette would much rather Ozil was playing, that’s for sure.

“I think there’s similarities between Ozil and Pogba in the sense that if you were to give Ozil the safety net of defensive midfielders behind him, he has the freedom to win matches on his own

“Unfortunately, while Pogba was able to overcome Mourinho, I don’t expect Ozil to overcome Emery.

“The situation is being framed as a head-to-head between Emery and Ozil, but this is an argument that the manager is going to win.

“I think Arsenal are committed to giving Emery a few years and I’m not convinced Ozil has enough credit in the bank with supporters for them to demand a change of tact.”

Earlier this season, Paul Pogba failed to live up to his defensive duties under then manager Jose Mourinho and this lead to the falling out of the pair.

But ever since Solskjaer has been appointed the caretaker manager, the Norwegian has handed a free reign to the Frenchman while asking the duo of Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera to do the dirty work in midfield.

And according to Danny Murphy, Unai Emery should also try and do the same with Mesut Ozil.
