Arsenal are said to be monitoring Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his No 10 position for the 24/25 season.
The Gunners are looking to add competition for Martin Odegaard but as per Football Insider, the 24-year-old is not going to be a straightforward signing because Tottenham along with West Ham United are also keen to land him.
Forest signed Morgan Gibbs-White from Wolves back in 2022 for a fee of around €29.50 million but they will now have to offload some important players in order to comply with the FFP rules.
Nuno’s side have been handed a four-point deduction in the Premier League breaching its profit and sustainability rules (PSR) and the experts believe the club will now have to sell important players like Morgan Gibbs-White so that they can balance their books.
Morgan Gibbs-White is currently valued at €40 million but Nottingham Forest are expected to charge a premium for the 24-year-old because he still has three years left on his contract.
He is a versatile player who can play as the chief playmaker and also as a winger so it’s hardly a surprise that three of the biggest London clubs want him. He’s scored three goals and provided five assists with an xA of 4.48. These numbers might not look very nice but for a team that’s sitting in the relegation zone, Gibbs has done fairly well.
An interest from Arsenal will definitely be tempting for the midfielder but if he has to leave in the summer, Morgan Gibbs-White will choose a team where there’s less competition.
No doubt he is a wonderful talent but it will be very hard for him to dethrone Martin Odegaard or even James Maddison. At West Ham United, Gibbs has the chance of playing more regularly but the Stafford-born midfielder will also be tempted to play in the Champions League.
If Spurs can qualify for the UCL next season they stand a very good chance of signing the Forest man, more so because buying a new No 10 is not Arteta’s priority at the moment. Arsenal are more focused on signing a central midfielder along with a new centre-forward in the summer and if they have money left, only then will they go after their other targets.
