Chelsea are growing desperate to bring in a new centre-forward this month and their latest target seems to be Lyon front-man Moussa Dembele.
Dembele caught everyone’s attention while he was playing for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership but then like any other SPFL sensation, he too was sold off for a hefty price in the summer of 2018 to Ligue 1 club Lyon.
And now it looks like the player has caught the attention of Frank Lampard who is looking to bring in a new striker after having failed to use Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud during the first half of the season.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has made it clear that Moussa Dembele will not be sold off during the middle of the season and the club have already rejected a verbal offer from Chelsea.
But as per reports, Lyon are certain that the Premier League club will try one more time to sign the 23-year-old before the transfer window shuts down.
The Blues have also been linked with Edinson Cavani but the Uruguayan is also a transfer target for Manchester United which is why Lampard is trying to keep his options open.
And with a tally of 15 goals already this season, Moussa Dembele is any day a better buy than the ageing Cavani.
But what remains to be seen is whether Chelsea do return with a formal bid and if the money they’re offering is good enough to break the deal-lock.
And while Lyon will try their level best to hold onto Moussa Dembele for the rest of the season, Celtic though will be eager to see the deal go through as early as possible since they have a sell-on clause and will get 10 per cent of any transfer fee that the Ligue 1 club receive.
