Liverpool news Naby Keita

Liverpool went down 1-0 to Napoli in the Champions League which means the Reds have now failed to pick up a win in their past three games.

And with Manchester City visiting Anfield this weekend the winless streak could easily go up to four games.

Liverpool manager will surely be concerned over his selection process for Sunday and now that Naby Keita is injured, the manager might just have a serious midfield crisis.

Keita was taken off the pitch in the 19th minute after he went down off the ball and now reports are suggesting the midfielder could miss the Premier League clash vs Manchester City.

Naby Keita complained of pain in his back due to which he was taken off the pitch in a buggy following which the midfielder was taken to the hospital.

An official Liverpool statement after the match read:

“Liverpool Football Club can confirm Naby Keita was taken to hospital in Naples on Wednesday evening during the first half of the Champions League fixture with SSC Napoli.

Keita was transferred to a local hospital with the club doctor, where – with the midfielder’s agreement – he underwent a number of precautionary health checks to assess his condition.”

Naby Keita’s injury is still being assessed by the doctor meaning the midfielder has not been ruled out of the match just yet.

But local sources in Napoli have claimed that Naby Keita’s injury might be a bit serious given the player spent Thursday night in the cardiology unit of the hospital.

If the muscle injury is a bit serious then Jurgen Klopp will not try to risk him so early on in the season.

If Naby Keita’s injury does not get better then Jordan Henderson will have to take up the central midfielder’s role which could be a bit of a problem vs a pacy Manchester City side.

UPDATE: Naby Keita has been deemed fit by the doctors meaning the player could be available to play against Manchester City. But still, there are doubts whether Jurgen Klopp would want to risk him.
