Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal has been used sparingly last season by Unai Emery and many had predicted his exit this summer.

During the 2018-19 season, Nacho Monreal played in only 22 Premier League games for the Gunners and now reports are claiming he is heading back to Spain.

The left-back joined Arsenal in 2013 from Malaga but the latest rumours suggest he has chosen to terminate his contract at the Emirates and will be heading back to Spain this summer.

It has been reported: “Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal has reportedly dumped the Emirates dwellers to become a free agent.

“According to UK Sun, citing NBC journalist Gerry Stuart, the 33-year-old defender mutually agreed to terminate his £65,000-a-week contract with the Gunners, after a six-year stint at North London.

“Reports further suggest Monreal is now set to return to Real Sociedad back home.”

While Arsenal have rebuffed these rumours but everyone knows that Nacho Monreal has will have no place in the first team squad next campaign given that Unai Emery already has Sead Kolasinac in his line up and he is also trying to bring in Kieran Tierney.

So it is more or less certain that Nacho Monreal will be leaving this summer and the sooner that happens the better it is for Celtic boss Neil Lennon.

Kieran Tierney has been tipped to join Arsenal for a couple of months now but as things stand both the clubs cannot agree on a transfer fee.

Arsenal have till date agreed to pay £20 million for the Scottish youngster but the Bhoys are holding out for £25 million which has been their demand from the very beginning.

But experts believe if Nacho Monreal is indeed heading out of the club then it would mean that the Gunners can free up a lot of funds and use that very money to pay for Kieran Tierney’s transfer.

Some fans also have a feeling that Nacho Monreal is trying to force his way out of the Emirates in such a hurry because Arsenal might be pretty close enough to signing Kieran Tierney.
