Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante did not start the season opener vs Manchester United due to an injury and there seems to be more bad news.

The Frenchman picked up an injury during the pre-season in Japan following which he had to return back to London for further treatment. And initially, there were doubts about his participation in the first game of the new Premier League season.

But somehow the medical staff did manage to patch him up which meant he could come on as a substitute in the second half without making any sort of major impact.

With the Man United game done and dusted everyone expected N’Golo Kante to start the UEFA Super Cup vs Liverpool in midweek but now there seems to be a problem.

According to Frank Lampard, N’Golo Kante picked up a knock at Old Trafford which has now put him in doubt for the match at Istanbul.

“Kante has a small injury, and I will make a decision with that with him,” Lampard told reporters.

“Willian and Rudiger are here, and they are in different stages. Willian is not far from fit, to put him in a high-intensity match is tough.

“He will be working through this week on fitness. Tomorrow he will be on the bench. Similarly with Rudiger.”

If N’Golo Kante does not make it to the matchday squad then it will be a huge blow for the Blues since Liverpool are a much stronger side than Man United.

And if the Blues cannot boss the midfield then there’s very little chance that they will be able to lift the UEFA Super Cup.

Without the Frenchman in the starting XI, Jorginho will hopefully start in the defensive midfield role as he did vs Man United and he should be partnered by Mateo Kovacic.

Kovacic also started on Sunday but unfortunately, he did not have the desired impact but with N’Golo Kante seemingly out, the Chelsea boss is running short of options.
