Frank Lampard was appointed the new manager of Chelsea this summer and his first professional game in charge was against Manchester United in the Premier League.

While everyone expected the game to be an even contest but United blew away Chelsea as they came out 4-0 winners.

The Blues did start the match on the front foot and should have actually led the game at half-time. Unfortunately, though luck was on Solskjaer side as almost every chance for the Red Devils resulted in a goal.

And naturally, after the match, Frank Lampard was left a bit bedazzled but he went on to claim that a lot of positives could be taken out of the match despite the embarrassing loss.

Lampard said when asked if his players needed perspective after the loss: ‘Yeah for sure. That’s the first thing I said [to them].

‘We have to be grown-up about it because it doesn’t feel nice. We’re Chelsea we don’t want to come here and lose 4-0, we don’t want to come anywhere and lose 4-0.

‘But we know – and anyone playing the game knows – we put in a performance that for big parts wasn’t a 4-0, but we have to accept that and realise it’s probably three points and we have too many things coming.

‘We have a game on Wednesday, the Super Cup, we have our first home game next weekend and we need to take all the good bits [from the United loss] but, more so, we need to analyse the bad bits and correct them.’

Frank Lampard along with his team have flown to Istanbul on Monday and almost every pundit feels that this UEFA Super Cup game could set the tone for Chelsea’s immediate future.

Liverpool are without a doubt much tougher opponents as compared to Manchester United which means even the smallest mistakes are likely to be punished.

Solskjaer, on the other hand, is basking in the glory of his first win for the new season and next up they take on Wolves in the Premier League on Monday.
