According to Foot Mercato, French club Marseille are interested in signing Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares.
Up until now, Atalanta were being linked with the full-back but now Marseille has also joined the race however the Serie A side are only interested in a loan deal.
Tavares has been majorly disappointing for the Gunners which is why Mikel Arteta is open to offloading him this summer and as per the rumours, the club have valued him at around €40 million.
Many experts had claimed that no major club will be interested in a permanent deal due to such a steep price tag and this is exactly what is unfolding right now.
Marseille enquired about Nuno Tavares a few days ago & have now made a loan offer with an option to buy for the player. Arsenal are yet to give an answer to Marseille but are open to the idea. Atalanta are also interested in Tavares. [@Santi_J_FM, @footmercato] #afc pic.twitter.com/rR6MBueE5E

Will Arsenal let Nuno Tavares leave on a loan deal?
The 22-year-old left-back joined from Benfica only last summer but he has endured a really tough time in the Premier League.
Despite playing in 22 league matches, the full-back has not been able to impress his manager which is why Arteta is willing to show him the door.
He was supposed to be the backup to Kieran Tierney but Arsenal are about to sign Aaron Hickey from Bologna so the manager will have no use of Tavares.
However, there’s no way a club will be ready to pay €40 million for someone who’s had such an average season.
If Arsenal want to get the best transfer value from his sale then they will have to let him move out on loan next campaign and hope that he can pick up his performances. A good 22/23 season will at least allow the Gunners to quote a high value.
Neither Marseille nor Atalanta will agree to shell out such a major amount on the 22-year-old so if Mikel Arteta truly wants him out then he will have to agree on a loan deal for Nuno Tavares – make with an option or obligation to buy clause.
