Patrick Vieira Arsenal vs Crystal Palace

While everyone is looking at Jose Mourinho to replace Unai Emery at Arsenal, French football journalist Julien Laurens claims Patrick Vieira could be the man to take charge of the club.

Patrick Vieira who is obviously a Gunners legend is currently the manager of OGC Nice and his contract with the French club expires in 2021.

While the Arsenal management have made it clear that they stand by Unai Emery for the time being but according to Laurens if the Spanish boss is sacked then surely the idea of Patrick Vieira becoming the next Arsenal boss will be given some serious thought.

“I think we’re still far away from Unai Emery leaving the club and having to find a replacement, but if and when it happens Patrick Vieira will be on the shortlist and rightly so,” Laurens told talkSPORT.

He’s been very good at Nice. He arrived in a difficult environment with the club up for sale, there was a lot of uncertainty, and they finish seventh in his first campaign in charge.

“This season they are 12th in the table but only two points from fourth place in a tight Ligue 1, so there have been a lot of good things Vieira has done.

“He’s learned a lot since arriving back in Europe from New York City FC in the United States.

“I think he will certainly feel ready for this kind of challenge.

“Whether Arsenal pick him or not is a different matter, but I certainly think he will be ready and I think he looks ready.”

Patrick Vieira has had a number of managerial stints ever since he chose to hang up his boots and the Frenchman has done a fair bit of work in England while he was associated with Manchester City.

The former midfielder has been managed the U19 and U21 sides of Man City and had also worked with NYCFC’s first team for two years.

So naturally Patrick Vieira is no muck when it comes to management and maybe Arsenal now need a former player(like Chelsea and Man United) in order to revive the glory days of the club and help them get back to the Champions League.
