Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has faced heavy criticism for his average performances for France during the 2018 World Cup.
France has managed to win both their Group Stage games in the tournament(2-1 against Australia and 1-0 against Peru) but their performances have been far from convincing.
And Didier Deschamps has told his men to pull up their socks before they play in the knockout stages.
Paul Pogba has undoubtedly been in the eye of the storm and many reports claim that if the midfielder cannot improve his performances then the coach might just push him to the bench.
But the former Juventus man has come out to claim that he is taking his place for granted and this could very well be his last World Cup.
Pogba said: “This[World Cup] is maybe my last one,
“I really want to enjoy this and to forget all the criticism, all the whispers from behind. What only matters to me is what is happening on the pitch.
“I’m here to give everything for this jersey, for my team, for France. I really want to win this World Cup.”
The midfielder has also claimed that France though not the favourites have every chance of lifting the trophy.
“It’s possible. Everything is possible,” Paul Pogba added.
“We do know that nothing is going to be easy, as you have seen in the World Cup games. Nothing is easy, it’s the World Cup.
“There is no little team or even average players. I know we can do it but there is still a long road to go.
“We will have to fight and to be strong.”
This though is not the first time that Paul Pogba has been infront of the firing squad as the Frenchman has failed to deliver during the 2017-1 season with Manchester United.
The player has even been on the substitutes bench for a couple of United’s game after which there were rumours that Pogba had fallen out with manager Jose Mourinho.
He said: “There were little things with [Mourinho] we can say, but nothing after all. These things make you grow also.
“I never had this experience so far, to sit on the bench in a season, after being a starter in the team.
“This is also the coach’s job, this is his role, I need to accept that.
“And like I’m always saying, the only answer is on the pitch.”
France play their third and final group game against Denmark on Tuesday and this might be Paul Pogba’s final chance to impress before the Les Bleus hit the knockout stages.
