Man United beat AC Milan during their final pre-season game meaning they remained unbeaten during their summer preparations.
But unlike the other games, Solskjaer’s men had to sweat it out this time around as the match went into penalties which the Red Devils eventually nicked 5-4.
Like most of the pre-season friendlies, in this game too, the manager chose to shuffle around most of his starting XI with the likes of Daniel James and Angel Gomez coming in during the second half.
But oddly, Paul Pogba was not featured during the match which led many people to believe that the midfielder might have picked up an injury.
And immediately there were doubts regarding the player’s participation in the Premier League opener when Man United take on Chelsea at Old Trafford.
Now though, the United boss has made it clear, that Paul Pogba wasn’t risked due to a back strain rather than any serious injury.
“Paul will probably be back early next week in training. It’s not an injury, just some pain. He’s not injured but I wasn’t going to risk anything this weekend,” Solskjaer said after the match.
“He should be okay (for Chelsea). I would hope so, anyway. I wasn’t expecting Paul (at the airport). I spoke to him after training and he didn’t feel right.”
This will be a huge relief for the Man United fans since the absence of Paul Pogba would have been a major blow for Solskjaer.
Chelsea too will be under tremendous pressure since this will be Frank Lampard’s first game in charge but the hope of Paul Pogba missing the match would have surely given a significant amount of leverage to the Blues.
But now it is certain that the World Cup winner will feature during the first gameweek of the new season – if he does not move out of Man United i.e.
