Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba returned back from injury this week when he played in the League Cup clash vs Rochdale.

The Frenchman started in central midfield alongside Fred and he ended up playing the whole match which made everyone pretty confident that he would start during the Man United vs Arsenal clash on Monday.

But now though, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come out to claim that Paul Pogba picked up an ankle injury against the League One side and is a major doubt for Monday’s game.

“He [Pogba] finished the game [on Wednesday] and got a knock to his ankle which is very swollen so it was best for him not to go there [to the team meeting],” the United boss said(as quoted by Sky Sports).

“He is a doubt for Arsenal. That’s just the way it is.”

Ole is already facing a race against time to make the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial fit for the Man United vs Arsenal match. And to lose Paul Pogba is such a scenario is a major setback for the Old Trafford outfit.

Without the World Cup winner, United have looked boring and unimaginative going forward and if he misses the EPL game on Monday then Solskjaer will have no other option but to consider playing a counter-attacking game at home.

The absence of Pogba also means the manager will most probably change his formation to a 4-3-2-1 with Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay playing in central midfield while either Mata or Lingard plays in a more advanced role.

But all is not bad news since the manager has hinted that Luke Shaw who has been recovering from a thigh injury could be in line to feature in the first XI on Monday after having returned back to training.

“Luke Shaw is back in training today, he is getting there, so let’s see how he reacts in the next couple of days,” Solskjaer said.

“He’s been working hard. We hope to see him before the international break, maybe on Monday but I’m not sure.”
