Chelsea have been struggling with their centre-forward position for almost two seasons now.

Last season, the Blues somehow go over the line with Alvaro Morata as their main striker – a transfer which clearly was a big blunder.

This season too new boss Maurizio Sarri had to cope up with Morata for the first half of the season before finally sending him out on loan to Atletico Madrid during the January transfer window.

As a replacement, Chelsea brought in Gonzalo Higuain on a six-month loan spell but unfortunately, the Argentine too has failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge.

Higuain has so far featured in 15 games scoring six goals but most of his strikes have come against relatively weaker opponents.

And speaking after Chelsea’s draw vs Man United last weekend, Paul Scholes has claimed that the centre-forward position is a big cause of concern for the Blues.

“I think the centre-forward [position] is a problem,” Scholes told TSN(as reported).

I think Higuain was poor today, they almost played with 10 men today.

“I thought Giroud, at least in the last 20 minutes, would have been given a chance.

“What they’ll do if Hazard goes I’m not too sure, that’s obviously going to be a big problem whatever team he’s out of is going to suffer.

“I enjoy watching them, I think they’ve got some good footballers, but have they got enough to challenge for the league? I think they are two or three players short on that.”

Higuain has been so poor for Chelsea since coming in that Sarri has often had to rely on Olivier Giroud who is primarily a back-up striker at the club.

It is pretty clear that the Beus need to bring in some fresh attackers during the summer transfer window in case their transfer ban is lifted.
