Tottenham Hotspur have been frantically looking for a new manager before the 2021/22 season kicks off and in their quest, they have now contacted former AS Roma boss Paulo Fonseca, as per Sky Sports.
The report claims: “Tottenham are in advanced talks to appoint former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca as their new head coach.
“As first reported by Sky in Italy, the Portuguese is expected to sign a three-year deal but nothing has been agreed yet between the two parties.
“Spurs have turned to Fonseca after their plans to appoint Antonio Conte as Jose Mourinho’s replacement collapsed last week following a breakdown in negotiations with the Italian.”
Spurs have gone through a lot of managers to replace Jose Mourinho and last week, they were almost on the verge of agreeing on a deal with ex-Inter boss Antonio Conte. But ultimately the talks collapsed so Daniel Levy has now turned towards the 48-year-old.
Paulo Fonseca had been with Roma for two years but he failed to take the club back into the Champions League next season so he was eventually replaced by Jose Mourinho at the end of this past season.
The Portuguese has the experience of managing big clubs like Roma, Shakhtar and FC Porto but the Spurs boss will without a doubt be his most challenging to date – if he gets appointed.
We think Paulo Fonseca will not be the safest bet for Tottenham at this point in time because if the 48-year-old is appointed then there’s a very big chance that players like Harry Kane and Son will try and move out before the new season begins.
