West Ham United have suffered their second consecutive defeat of the new Premier League season after they were beaten 2-1 at home by Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side.

Bournemouth came from 1-0 down to pick up all three points at the London Stadium and the Hammers fans are once again having that sinking feeling from last season.

During the 2017-18 campaign, the Hammers were entangled in a relegation battle for most of the season and narrowly escaped dropping down to the Championship.

And it seems that the team have made little to effort to rewrite that poor form and crawl back to the top half of the table.

Forget the players, even the West Ham manager refused to take the blame upon himself and chose to comment on the mentality of his players who according to him are still traumatized due to the previous season.

After the defeat, Manuel Pellegrini said: “Yes, I think so. That’s one of the reasons why in the second half we changed so much and tried to keep it 1-0,

“I don’t think it’s the stadium and I don’t think it’s playing here. What they need is to try work for 90 minutes the way we did for 45 minutes today.

“We knew before we would need time with so many new players, management and style of play. Most of all we need to forget about last season.

“We need to recover the trust in each player and what they can do. We must recover the trust as a club and that’s what we must do in the next week.”

These comments from the manager are sure to infuriate the fans as the last thing they would want to hear is such negative comments from a manager who has received the full backing from the board during the summer transfer window.

West Ham United have made close to a dozen signings ever since Manuel Pellegrini was appointed as the new boss and the team have spent a whopping 100 million pounds on new acquisitions.

But still, the boss feels that the demons of the previous season are haunting the handful of the old players – which in turn is affecting the team.
