Rangers FC have signed a number of players during the summer transfer window but the club still needs to bring in a couple of more players to really strengthen the squad.

And one area of the pitch that needs reinforcements is the striker’s department which currently has only Alfredo Morelos and Umar Sadiq.

So naturally, when rumours about Alfredo Morelos moving out of the club hit the gossip columns, the fans showed their discomfort.

Recent reports had suggested that the French club Bordeaux had made a £3.75 million bid for Morelos earlier this week and that both the clubs had held initial talks about a possible transfer before the end of August.

The Light Blues though had immediately rejected the offer but it was still unclear the real reason behind the rejection.

While some claimed that the Glasgow club were not interested in selling Alfredo Morelos others believed that Gerrard was simply asking for more money.

But now the manager had cleared the air about the transfer stating that Alfredo Morelos is not leaving the club any time soon and will also be rewarded for keeping his loyalties at Ibrox.

Talking to Sky Sports, Gerrard said: “We can’t fight to keep our best players and then not award them with what they’re worth,

“That’s one for the board to discuss. In my opinion, he should be looked after.

“My job is to manage the situation, tell him how much he is loved here. The fans sang his name non-stop last night.

“He is a big hero of theirs. It is my responsibility to keep heroes here for the fans to follow week in, week out.”

Morelos was easily one of the brightest sparks for the Gers last season – scoring 18 goals during the 2017-18 campaign. And this season too the 22-year-old has gotten off to a fine start.

So to put it simply, the Gers just cannot afford to let go of Alfredo Morelos this summer not only because he is the best forward player in the squad but also because Gerrard cannot bank only on Umar Sadiq for the whole season.
