Pep Guardiola has come out and publicly defended Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.
The City manager said that the criticism that the German has received is not called for and he thinks that Ozil certainly has the quality to make a comeback and prove everyone wrong.
Mesut Ozil has had a terrible start to the new campaign and his only good performance came against Everton during the 5-2 win. Apart from that, his outings have been poor and below par. And such performances have come repeatedly when Ozil has been linked with a move out of the Emirates next summer.
But Guardiola certainly feels that the fans want a big name to point fingers at after every loss and that is why Mesut Ozil so easily becomes a target.
Guardiola said, “I don’t have doubts about his quality. The criticism is when the team lose and they want a big target.
“Maybe his body language doesn’t help him too much. But body language can confuse opinion.”
This sudden praise for the former Real Madrid man comes just days before the big clash between the two sides on Sunday. So is this just a mind game from Guardiola or is the Spanish coach really backing the player?
