Pep Guardiola take a sly dig at Pochettino and his team: But is he right?

Pep Guardiola has aimed a sly dig at title rivals Tottenham Hotspur by terming them a ‘one-man team’ referring to prolific striker Harry Kane.

The Spurs forward is on an astonishing run after a barren August as he has now shockingly scored 9 goals in his last 4 away fixtures bagging a hat-trick in Cyprus against Apoel Nicosia, and braces against Everton, West Ham and most recently Huddersfield Town.

This takes his September tally to 13 with an impressive 11 of those coming for his club in just 6 appearances.

Manchester City manager has suggested them Tottenham may over-rely on the 24-year-old despite the vast wealth of talent available to manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Guardiola gave his verdict on Saturday night as he assessed his side’s chances of winning the Premier League compared to their main rivals Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham.

“We’re in September. Chelsea won 13 games in a row last season. They were unbeatable, they won the league. It’s not easy,” Guardiola said.

‘Of course this season they play in Europe. It’s a little more complicated for all the teams.

‘We have United [and] the Harry Kane team who scores every game two or three goals.

“Jose with United will always be tough. That is a Jose Mourinho team, aggressive winning duels and so quick on the counter-attack. They are already convinced they can do it in this way. It will be tough.”

The comment about Harry Kane would have surely ruffled quite a few feathers in the Spurs fanbase and they will expect their team to prove their credentials on the pitch rather than getting back at Pep verbally.

Of course, Kane is one of their best players and scores more than the other players but that does not mean that they are a one-man team with players like Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen consistently contributing.

Manager Pochettino will also not be impressed by the comments of Pep Guardiola and one can only wait and watch if he will respond and look to continue this war of words and mind games.

Spurs however impressive must show an improvement in home form or else all of these goals from Kane will count for nothing.

City, who are not set to play Tottenham until mid-December, currently top the Premier League table, albeit just on goal difference, and remain five points ahead of third-placed Spurs.

They take a trip to the Bet365 Stadium next as former manager Mark Hughes’ men Stoke City await them.
