England in the 2000’s was easily the best ensemble in world football but like many other star-studded teams, the Three Lions failed to win any major trophy.
The England side had stars like Frank Lampard, Gerrard, Paul Scholes and David Beckham but unfortunately, all these talents failed to play together as one cohesive unit.
But now former England striker, Peter Crouch has revealed who the best player amongst this lot was.
In an interview with the Anfield Warp, Crouch revealed the name of the player who was the best during England’s training sessions.
Crouch said: “I’ve been very lucky to play with the likes of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale at Tottenham – and some top players with England like David Beckham and Wayne Rooney but Gerrard, for me, I just feel like he had everything.
“I remember playing against him when I was a kid at Spurs and he was at Liverpool in the youth team. In the first moment I saw him he smashed someone on the edge of the box, beat two men and crashed the hardest shot I’ve ever seen on to the crossbar. I thought… who’s this fella?
"I played against Gerrard in the youth team. He smashed someone on the edge of the box, beat two men and crashed the hardest shot I've ever seen on to the cross bar. I thought… who's this fella?"

“In England training, he was by far the best player and that was with world-class players. He could play right-back and still be the best player.
“If you put all that together, for me, that’s why one of the chapters [in Crouch’s book] is dedicated to him.
“He’s the best player I played with and I say how to be a footballer, go and follow that.”
Steven Gerrard spent 17 glorious years with the Liverpool first team and played more than a 100 games for the England national side – scoring 21 goals.
Currently, the Liverpool midfielder is working as the manager at Scottish Premiership side Rangers FC.
