UCL Champions League final UEFA Champions League
UEFA Champions League

Right now, four Premier League teams have qualified for the Champions League next season and there is still one more spot up for grabs.

Arsenal are not going through to the UCL based on their league position this campaign but they have another route.

The Gunners have reached the Europa League finals this season where they will be playing against Chelsea and if Unai Emery’s men can manage to win the UEL then they will get direct entry into the Champions League.

But given that the North London club will be playing against the Blues, winning the Europa League will not be a cakewalk.

And Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka feels that given the level of competition, UEFA should allot not four but six Champions League spots to the Premier League.

“Every team that can get to a final is strong enough so, we know Chelsea, we play a lot against them,” he said.

“Four teams in the final shows everyone what a league the Premier League is and we hope we are ready for the final.

“You should have to go for the first six from the Premier League into the Champions League, so strong is the league.

“It is only four teams, four teams in the final now and so we can be proud.

“Of course, every trophy and every title is important,

“It is important if you take the title here and go to the Champions League. Of course, we want to be in the Champions League through the Premier League but that is the past and we have to look forward now and we will see in three weeks.”

If Arsenal qualify for the UCL then it will be only Manchester United who will miss on Champions League football next season.

As things stand, UEFA have no plans to increase Champions League slots for the Premier League clubs which means, the Red Devils will have to sweat it out in the Europa League next season while the other top-six clubs bask in the glory of top-class European football.
