Rangers beat Celtic FC 2-0 at Ibrox in the Old Firm Derby on Sunday and these three points are nothing short of a moral victory for the Gers.
The upset at Ibrox was the first game that Celtic have lost under Neil Lennon since he took charge in February after Brendan Rodgers moved to Leicester City.
James Tavernier opened the scoring for Rangers in the 2nd minute and then it was Scott Arfield who wrapped it up with a second right after the hour-mark.
While these three points will do very little to change the fortunes of Rangers this season but Gerrard claims that right now he knows what to do for the upcoming campaign.
“We haven’t lost the league on Old Firm results or performances,” Gerrard said.
“We know what we need to do. They [Celtic] are the team that’s won the league, won the [League] Cup, probably about to win another Cup.
“We have to show respect as that’s what football’s all about.
“This season coming to an end comes at a bad time for us because we’re in good shape. We need next season to be big and everyone has got to be part of that.
“We’ve added quality and we’ve evolved with the players we have. We’re a better team now.
“We have to realise where we are. We haven’t won anything yet. But there’s a lot of positives to take from the season, there’s a lot of progress made.
“It’s an important victory, not so much for now, but for moving forward.
“We deserve a lot of praise because we were outstanding from start to finish, and we were better in every department.”
Rangers will travel to Rugby Park in order to take on Kilmarnock in what will be the final game of the 2018-19 Premiership season.
