Arsenal are suddenly being linked with Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling but as the days go by, it’s becoming more and more clear that the Gunners will not be able to sign him.

Every Arsenal fan became really excited when this news initially broke out but one by one all the dreams are being shattered.

It’s being claimed that Man City are finding it hard to make Raheem Sterling sign a new contract at the club which is why the Gunners are suddenly so interested in the England international.

But according to pundit Noel Whelan, Arsenal are not likely to get their hands on Sterling, for more reasons than one.

Noel Whelan told Football Insider: “I don’t think there are too many clubs who could afford his wages.

“That will be a huge stumbling block in any move. He’s still got too much to offer for Manchester City, they would be silly to lose a player of that quality and calibre.

“Would Arsenal really give Sterling the satisfaction of winning trophies? Probably not, in my opinion, they’ve still got a lot of building to do.

“They’re a long way off the top four, and a long way off being able to attract players like Raheem Sterling.

“Arsenal would have to give him Champions League football and I very much doubt that will happen.”

If Raheem Sterling wishes to leave Manchester City next year then Mikel Arteta will obviously try and use his good connections to bring him on board but in reality, the North London side are way down the pecking order.

Firstly, Arsenal will have to get back into the Champions League to even consider making a formal move for the England international. And then there’s his huge wages demands and also a transfer fee( his deal with City expires in 2023).

All in all, Arsenal are nowhere close to signing Raheem Sterling and it will be nothing short of a miracle if they are actually able to land him next summer.
